The China Aerospace Foundation Uniasia Aerospace Scholarship Award Ceremony Kicked off to Help Dream of Students Come True

2019-12-24

The 2018-2019 award ceremony of "China Aerospace Foundation - Uniasia Aerospace Scholarship" and "Caixia Scholarship" were grandly held on December 24th at the Zhuhai campus of Sun Yat-Sen University. Wu Zhiqing, President of Uniasia Group, Wang Sainan, Deputy Secretary-General of China Aerospace Foundation, and Yang Aimin, Director of Business Development Department of China Aerospace Foundation, attended the award ceremony and awarded honorary certificates to the outstanding scholars.

With More Than 20 Years of Technical Storage, Exploring the Universe Boldly with Firm Steps

The School of Physics and Astronomy of Sun Yat-sen University was established in 1927. It is mainly based on the frontiers of basic science and the major strategic needs of the country. The main research directions include gravitational physics, gravitational wave astronomy, cosmology, large-scale structure of the universe and galaxy formation theory, High-energy astrophysics, etc.

At 11:22 on December 20, 2019, the "Tianqin-1" satellite developed by the School of Physics and Astronomy of Sun Yat-sen University soared up to the sky with the Chinese people's expectation for gravitational wave detection. The launch of the Tianqin-1 satellite is an important part of the Tianqin Project proposed by Luo Jun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Sun Yat-sen University. The "Lianqin Project" will deploy three identical satellites in an orbit about 100,000 kilometers from the earth, just like a "harp" perpendicular to the ecliptic plane. The laser "strings" between the three satellites can capture low-frequency gravitational wave signals, helping humans to understand more diverse and richer universe information.

The "Tianqin-1" satellite is a milestone for the entire "Tianqin Project" and is a university-led technical test satellite under the country’s first national project to detect space gravitational waves. Its successful launch means the "Lianqin Project" for space gravitational wave detection led by Chinese scientists has officially entered the space test stage.

It is understood that all three satellites of the "Tianqin Project" will be deployed around 2035 and will gather superior forces at home and abroad to carry out gravitational wave detection research and make greater contributions to human development.

Actively respond to the policy of a powerful country by science and technology, and promote the development of China's space industry

The "China Aerospace Foundation - Uniasia Space Scholarship" was established by the China Aerospace Foundation and donated by Uniasia Group to reward students with excellent academic performance and comprehensive development in the School of Physics and Astronomy of Sun Yat-sen University of aerospace direction, and encourage students to work hard in learning, innovate boldly, forge ahead arduously, and become a pillar of the aerospace industry.

Ms. Wu Zhiqing, president of Uniasia Group, said in a speech at the meeting that the establishment of the "China Aerospace Foundation - Uniasia Aerospace Scholarship" is a way for Uniasia to pay respect to the hardworking and dedicated university teachers and students and scientific research workers. It is also the efforts made by Uniasia to promote the development of China's education, and it is Uniasia's active response to the policy of making the country a strong one in science and technology.

She mentioned that science is the driving force of social progress. Today, China is on its way to the world's first phalanx of science. Under such circumstances, it is even more urgent to call on the vast number of scientific researchers to shoulder the mission and responsibility of serving the country with science and making the country a strong one with science and technology. The youth is the future of the motherland, and the strong youth makes the country strong. Mr. Wu expressed his earnest expectation to the students present, encouraging everyone to be lofty and enterprising, keep in mind the requirements of the times, shoulder the important tasks given by the times, and achieve a new leap in our country's aerospace technology field.

Technological innovation is the fundamental and edge tool of country’s competitiveness; talents are related to the development and future of the country. The original intention of Uniasia Group to fund the establishment of the scholarship is to help the country and society in the new era cultivate innovative and technological talents, promote the vigorous development of China's aerospace industry, and contribute its due strength to science and education innovation and a strong country in science and technology.
